Blonde Redhead

Art rock greats arrive with their warm, spectral dream pop and singular mystique.

Art school originals. New York darlings. Here with their shimmering shoe gaze, lush dream pop, damaged codas and Didion quotes. It began in 1993, when a chance meeting in a restaurant between college students led to experimental jam sessions, and a recording session with Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelly.

Last year, the avant-rock legends returned with their first album in almost a decade, Sit Down for Dinner. It’s one of their warmest, most welcoming yet. Which is saying a lot considering, at their best, Blonde Redhead are masters of intimate strangeness. Some songs squeal with treble symphonies. Some songs invite you to sit among the dying plants where secrets are sighed.

Over the years, each release has ushered fans into a new universe of melody and noise. Their latest is a sublime seize-the-day manifesto (of sorts) that tinges their sound with ‘70s gold. Greet it with open hearts.

Melbourne/Naarm’s Georgia Knight is bringing her grungy-folk and soul-rattling melodies in support.

On their first album in nearly a decade, and following a wave of viral resurgence, the NYC avant-rock vets return with their warmest, most welcoming music yet.
